Project Overview
The Product
Skyline is app promoting meditation and overall well-being, with the aim to help calm down in stressful situations, bring relief and immediately help to lighten one’s mood.
Project Duration:
May 2023 - June 2023
My Role:
UX Design Lead: Research, Visual, Interaction, and Testing. From conception to delivery.
The Problem:
Skyline is your atypical well-being app. We often find ourselves in uncomfortable situations that ruin our whole day. Now with Skyline, you can calm down and find immediate help to lighten your mood.
The Goal:
A fun, clear, and simple app design that allows users to quickly order and reserve tickets and seats to their favorite movies. Additionally, their recommended movies are based on their interests
Responsibilities:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs. Done for both dedicated mobile app and responsive website.
Understanding the user
User Research: Summary
For the user research phase, a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods was employed to gain insights into the needs and preferences of the target users. Assumptions were initially made that Sarah, the Working Professional, and Mark, the Busy Parent, experienced challenges in finding ways to improve their mood and well-being after stressful situations.
The assumption was that they would appreciate an app and website that provided quick and convenient access to mood-enhancing activities. However, after conducting user research through surveys, interviews, and usability tests, it was discovered that Sarah had a preference for more personalized and customizable features, such as guided meditations and inspirational content.
On the other hand, Mark expressed a strong desire for activities that seamlessly integrated into his busy schedule and allowed him to find moments of positivity in small bursts. These findings helped refine the initial assumptions and informed the design and features of the app and website, ensuring they catered to the specific needs and preferences of the target users.
Persona 1: Mark
Problem statement:
Mark finds it challenging to incorporate moments of positivity and relaxation into his busy schedule as a working parent, resulting in increased stress and a lack of personal well-being.
Persona 2: Sarah
Problem statement:
Sarah struggles to find effective ways to unwind and uplift her mood after a stressful day at work, leading to feelings of overwhelm and emotional exhaustion.
Ideation
I set aside dedicated time for a solo brainstorming session, allowing myself to freely generate ideas for features, activities, and content that can uplift moods and enhance well-being within the app and website.
Starting the design
Digital Wireframes
Users wanted to experience a personal meditation within the app that would be tailored to their personal experience.
Usability Study: Parameters
Study type:
Unmoderated usability study

Location:
Finland, remote
Usability Study: Findings
Navigation Challenges
Users expressed difficulty in locating the profile menu, leading to confusion and frustration while trying to customize their preferences.
Low Fidelity Prototype
The user flow in the low-fidelity prototype involves users landing on the home screen, selecting mood-enhancing activities, engaging with them, and customizing their environment. Peer feedback was received and implemented to simplify navigation, add more activities and content, improve visual cues, and enhance customization features, resulting in a more user-friendly and effective prototype.
Participants:

2
Disjointed Activity Transition
Participants found the transition between different mood-enhancing activities to be unclear, resulting in a disjointed user experience and a lack of flow.
Users have the option to seek calmness in experiencing a personal meditation, tailored to the time of day and an affirmation of their choice.
Length:
30-60 minutes
3
Lack of Feedback on Progress
Users desired more visual feedback and guidance during the completion of mood-enhancing activities to validate their progress and provide a sense of accomplishment.
Refining the design
Mockups
Users have a more visually appealing way they can track their progress within the app.
BEFORE
High Fidelity Prototype
In the high-fidelity prototype, the user flow was improved based on peer feedback by refining the visual design, streamlining navigation, adding diverse activities, and incorporating visual feedback elements for a more engaging and user-friendly experience.
Accessibility Considerations
BEFORE
AFTER
2
Accessibility features such as keyboard navigation and alternative text for images were implemented to enable users with motor or visual disabilities to access and interact with the content.
AFTER
Users have a list of interesting facts tailored to their interests and personalities.
3
The designs followed responsive design principles, ensuring that the app and website adapt to different screen sizes and are usable by individuals with varying abilities and devices.
1
The designs incorporated high color contrast and clear typography to ensure readability for users with visual impairments.
Responsive Design
Sitemap
The goal of the sitemap was to have an overall view of how the app connects, so a user flow could be established.
MOBILE
TABLET
Responsive Designs
The main goal was to maintain consistency across all devices, with additional features in the desktop version, due to a larger interface.

Going Forward…
Takeaways
Impact:
The inclusive and user-friendly designs resulted in an enhanced user experience, with study participants expressing their appreciation for the accessible features and stating, 'The app and website have truly uplifted my mood and made it easier to find moments of positivity in my daily life’.
Next Steps
1
Conduct Usability Testing:
Perform comprehensive usability testing with a diverse group of users to gather more feedback and identify any remaining pain points or areas for improvement, ensuring a refined and user-friendly final product.
2
What I learned:
Throughout the project, I learned the importance of user-centered design, incorporating user feedback, and considering accessibility to create a refined and inclusive user experience. This experience deepened my understanding of the iterative design process and the value of creating meaningful experiences for users.
Iterative Design Refinement:
Continuously iterate on the designs based on user feedback and testing results, making necessary adjustments to enhance the user experience and address any usability issues that arise.
3
Beta Release and User Feedback:
Release a beta version of the app and website to a limited user group, actively soliciting their feedback and insights to gain further understanding of how the platform performs in real-world scenarios, enabling further refinement and optimization before the full launch.
